Lake Ballard feels like being on another planet – it is a gigantic, dried up salt lake dotted sparsely with 51 statues by Sir Antony Gormley. And it is in the middle of nowhere.

We drove 55km down a bumpy unsealed and unmarked road from the already remote Western Australian town of Menzies before we realised we were definitely in the right spot. Was absolutely worth the journey. Bring hats, water, sunscreen and some good shoes. – Mum

Once upon a time there was a swimming pool and then the swimming pool turned into a big salt lake. - Marshall

There were many warnings about crossing the Nullarbor – “no gas for 700km!”, “the roads are unsealed!”. Perhaps many years ago, however, the Nullarbor of today is a smooth, long, stretch of sealed highway with roadhouses and petrol around every 200km. Quite uneventful apart from some coastal views and me almost hitting a dingo.

We did the 1100km+ in one day, but padded it with some rest on either end – a quiet day that ended with a beautiful Ceduna sunset, and a night after the drive at a old outback sheep station that is now a campground, Fraser Range Sheep Station.

I knit for about 900km and drove 200km. - Mum

1900km+ travelled since Sydney and we found ourselves in a tiny and quiet town, Baird Bay, with around 20 houses, a campsite and an outfit for swimming with sea lions and dolphins in their natural state. And the sunset… wow. - Mum

We swam with the sea lions and then we got hot chocolate. I was scared. - Marshall

VISA and Pedestrian.tv recently asked me to share one of my worst travel experiences involving lost cash.

As a toddler I haven’t got much cash to loose, but we did once leave behind my nappies on a flight and then I had a big accident. We had to make trousers out of my jacket, as documented here. We also left our wallet in our hotel room in Istanbul, which made matters much worse.

Mum now carries a card in a separate place apart from her wallet. And I am now potty trained.

If you have a story involving lost or stolen cash you can share it here and enter to win one of 3 $20,000 Holiday Replays from VISA. You can also read my interview on  Pedestrian.tv.

And here are some more travel moments for your enjoyment:

We’ve had patchy internet at best – currently on Day 9 but sharing retrospectively a few photos from our first day on the road.

Day 1: drove out of Sydney, through the Blue Mountains and just north of Bathurst to a unique, privately owned park, “Artisans Park“, where we slept in a converted 1949 London Bus overlooking a beautiful valley. The bus was acquired and converted by a builder/sculptor whose property was once home to a slew of kooky things he built to sleep in (a rocket, a UFO) but it all got too busy for him and he’s since pared it back to just the bus. Great way to start the journey.

- Mum

We stayed at the big red London bus and I played in a rocket and on the swings and it was my favourite.

Nearly 10 years ago Scott and I eloped and got Married in Las Vegas. Without any grand plans we left our separate homelands and came to Australia to start off somewhere new together. Here, we bought our first apartment, got our first real jobs and had our first child. Sleeping for the last night in our empty place in Sydney I say goodbye for now with a very heavy heart, but am also excited about our big adventure ahead.
- Mum

When I leave Sydney I feel sad but I be excited on the Super Adventure. I am going to miss our house most. I am excited about Legoland.
- Marshall

However you look at it, Australia has been really good to us, so it was always going to be emotional leaving. But there’s nothing like 25,000km traveling with your best friends to give you something positive to look forward to. Roll on the next chapter.
